Blog #4 Amazing Hour
I found the amazing hour very
difficult. Not because I feel I am obsessed with my phone, nut I do not like to
be left alone with my only my thoughts. Although some people might argue that
it is the best feeling, I do not. I often overthink many things for no reason.
When left alone with my thoughts all I did was overthink. This led me to
anxiety, then fear, then a depressed feeling, and finally a very light sleep
that did not do anything for me since I woke up the next day tired as can be.
Not having something to distract my undiagnosed ADHD made it very hard for me
to fall asleep since I was overthinking any possible thing.
The
second night I tried the amazing hour again, this time instead of sitting alone
in my bed with my thoughts, I turned on Netflix. Though this may seem to be
going against the point of amazing hour, it worked really well for me. Movies
and TV shows are something that interest me very much, but even if I am not
watching them, I enjoy having the background noise. Without the noise, all I can
focus on is the loud hum that the vents make as the hot air travels through
them, or the creaks of the wood frame of my house settling. All very eerie noises
that I would not like to hear before falling asleep.
I may not have done the “Amazing hour”
correctly, but the name is deceiving. For me the time spent away from
electronics, only to collect my thoughts, was very ominous and unenjoyable. It
is said it is supposed to help you, but I did not feel helped in any way. It
made matters worse. Which is why I tried my own form of the “Amazing hour” the
next night. I found my own form of the "Amazing hour" to be much more soothing than the one we were told to try. I shall end this by bringing up the phrase "To each their own." I had to find something that works for me, which is not always the same as what works for everyone else.
